APSI is organizing the 4th Conference on Playgrounds “New Standards, Good Practice and Opportunities for All” in November 2010, Lisbon.
This is the biggest event of the year in the playground and playing area in Portugal, as result of the pioneering and intensive work APSI has been conducting, for the last 17 years, with impact on the European standards and especially with its significant part in the making of the first law in our country.
In this conference, we intent to evaluate the impact of the new Portuguese law and the new European standards, in the provision of inclusive playgrounds and opportunities for all children to play in a stimulating and safe environment.
For this conference, we are considering the participation of about 250 professionals (national and international), among engineers, architects, landscape architects, inspectors, environmental health and hygiene technicians, sports technicians, designers, playground and sports equipment designers and manufacturers, public health professionals, enforcement authorities.
The conference will be streamlined in Portuguese and English.
In the previous conferences that APSI has organised, there was a good participation and support from the Government. In 1996 we had a written message from the wife of the President of Portugal, in 1999 and 2006 we had written messages from the Prime-Minister, and several Government representatives giving speeches and participating in the discussions.
It’s also expected, like in 2006, a strong coverage from the media, being already ongoing partnerships with MediaPartners, in television, radio and press.
It’s intended that this Congress will be a decisive mark in the quality of playful spaces offer, promoting leisure public playgrounds and school playgrounds, worthy of a modern society, focusing the problematic on the Child, their Rights, Capabilities and Needs.
